With Trearken, we aim to create an inviting and functional museum that resonates with its natural surroundings. Inspired by Norway’s timber-floating heritage, traditional architecture, and powerful landscapes, the building seeks to embody openness, sustainability, and a deep connection between people and place.
The architectural language of Trearken is shaped by the desire to blur the boundary between interior and exterior. The museum consists of four smaller volumes, unified beneath a generous, sheltering roof. This configuration fosters a natural movement flow where visitors transition through indoor and semi-outdoor spaces, engaging with the surrounding landscape as they move between the pavilions.

Trearken is conceived as a forward-looking meeting placean open, sustainable, and human-centered cultural hub. It integrates museum functions, educational programs, workshops, leisure, and local business into a harmonious ecosystem. Each space is flexible and welcoming, adaptable to a wide range of users and activities.
The design is grounded in the principles of Scandinavian culture: informality, environmental awareness, and strong ties to nature. The building’s low profile aligns with the scale of surrounding timber houses, allowing it to fit gently within the landscape while still standing as an architectural symbol.
More than a museum, Trearken becomes a space where learning, culture, and community converge reflecting the values of sustainability, openness, and respectful integration with nature.
